The 12th round of the championship was held at Darley Moor on 10/7/05, as you will have probably worked out from the title. We initially got an entry of 14 but this was reduced to 13 as Nigel Griffiths was clearly out of action after his accident at Mallory the previous weekend. In the end 12 made it to the meeting as Pete Gnosill was still having problems with his Z750. With such an entry it was inevitable that we would have a shared grid and we ended up with the LCs the Pre 90's and a Hornet on a 10 second delay behind us. The first race was 6 on the programme and by the time it got underway it hadn't snowed or even rained, quite a feat for Darley Moor. When it got underway it was the three 1300 class machines of Nigel Lawrence, Clive Wadey and Steve Cave that as expected led the field in that order and that was the order at the flag despite the best attempts of Clive and Steve. There was then a bit of a gap before the first of the 750s finished and in 4th place it was Mick Baillie who after a race long scrap just got the better of Pete Boyles. Following them was Trevor Wagland on the Z1100 who just got the better of the RD400 ridden by Rob Patterson, who was in turn just ahead of Shane Stocks also on a RD400. Pete Mabberley was next to finish on the GSX1100 and he was in turn followed home by the X7 of John Turner. The second race was 19 on the programme and it was still fine with no sign of rain. When it got underway it was the same three riders who got well clear of the field. Nigel again took the win but was only just over a second clear of Steve Cave. Nigel's time was near enough 11.5 seconds faster than the previous race record according to the figures in the programme. They were in turn followed home by Clive and then there was a bit of a gap back to the 750s of Mick Baillie and Pete Boyles. Mick again just got the better of Pete, by a couple of seconds this time, Pete's case not being helped by the fact that a hornet got between them on the last lap. Trevor Wagland was next to finish and he was in turn followed home by Rob Patterson. Next on the result sheet was Shayne Stocks who was shown a lap down. He was actually never more than a couple of seconds behind Rob all race long and as Rob Started his last lap he was near enough alongside from where I was watching. Unfortunately they were being lapped by the leading pre90 machine and his transponder must have just got between the two of them as they crossed the line. Pete Mabberley was next to finish and he was in turn followed home by John Turner, Phil Underwood and Pete Scott, who managed to finish this time. Pete failed to finish the first event after the throttle on his RD400 stuck open at the end of the main straight. He managed to come to a halt in one piece apparently according to him its something that everyone should try once in their life. Steve Bailey. |
