The first meeting of the year at the EMRA meeting on 5th march attracted an entry of 18, this isn't enough to get a grid to ourselves so it ended up being a shared grid unfortunately it was with 5 "Thunderstock" class machines that went off the back of the grid. The entry wasn't too bad considering the weather that was up to the usual standards for early March, quite a few have said that March is too early to start the season and in some ways it couldn't be argued with. We were race 6 on the day and when it got underway it wasn't too long before Pete Boyles and Karl Scott both on 750's got clear of the field and finished in that order. Rob Eley on the GSX1100 was closing on them after being blocked at the start but had machine problems on lap 4. Adrian Sanders took third on his SRX600 and he was followed home by Alec Gilfillan on his Gpz 550, this being his first meeting for some time. Mike Annesley was the next finisher on the Laverda 750 and he was followed home by Cass on the RD 400, this being her first meeting for near enough a year. Allen Bowers was next to finish on his Gpz 750, this being his first ever race meeting he's ever done. Nigel Griffiths was the next finisher on his GS1000 he being ahead of Richard Insall on the RD250. Paul Cockings was the next to finish on his GS1000 ahead of Colin Young on his XJ 550. Colin last ran the XJ near enough a year ago when it had major and quite dramatic mechanical problems. John Hardwick was the next to finish on his X7 and he was in turn ahead of Pete Scott on his RD400 and Graeme Acott who went out on his MZ after he had problems with his X7. Trevor Wagland failed to finish after his Z1100 struck problems very early in the race, these being all too apparent during practice, when it clearly didn't want to play. Giles Hepworth also failed to finish on his RD250. The second event was 15 on the programme and this time Karl Scott got the better of Pete Boyles. Behind them it was Adrian Sanders and Alec Gilfillan. Cass was next to finish just ahead of Mike Annesley after getting ahead of him at the hairpin on the last lap. Allen Bowers was next with a race time within 0.2 seconds of his first race time. Richard Insall was next and was followed home by Colin Young who's XJ was running much better than in the first race. Nigel Griffiths was in turn behind him and he in turn was followed closely by Paul Cockings. Graeme Acott was the next finisher he being ahead of Pete Scott. John Hardwick was the next finisher and he was less than a second clear of Giles Hepworth Steve Bailey. |
